Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of several characteristics that increase the risk of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. These characteristics include obesity, high blood pressure, elevated blood sugar levels and high triglycerides.
The kind of obesity referred to in metabolic syndrome is large waist circumference obesity. This obesity can be contributed to in part by hormonal imbalance, especially excessive estrogen. Fat cells can create estrogen which creates a higher level of estrogen. This higher level of estrogen puts women at even greater risk for heart disease.
Aside from obesity, there are few early symptoms of metabolic syndrome. Type II Diabetes and high blood pressure indicate advanced metabolic syndrome.
Many sufferers of metabolic syndrome have had little luck adapting their lifestyles to fight metabolic syndrome. However, self-care of metabolic syndrome for women can involve physical exercise, dietary modification, blood glucose monitoring, quitting smoking and anti-diabetic medication. A shift to a plant- based diet can also help control metabolic syndrome.
What is BHRT?
Bio-identical hormone replacement therapy, or BHRT, is a treatment for many different conditions brought on by hormonal imbalance in women and men such as metabolic syndrome. BHRT differs from conventional hormone replacement therapy in that the hormones used for BHRT are bio-identical to the ones found naturally within the human body. The other difference between BHRT and conventional HRT is that BHRT uses plant- based hormones rather than animal-derived hormones.
Since one of the causes of weight gain can be unbalanced hormones, BHRT may be able to help reduce out of control weight gain by treating the cause of the weight gain through balancing the hormones in the body.
