What Are Hormones?

Hormones are responsible for beginning and ending many biological processes. They are a particular kind of molecule called a signaling molecule produced within the body to regulate physiology. All hormones play different and complex roles within the body. The major categories include sex hormones, immune hormones, sleep hormones, stress hormones, growth hormones, cardiac hormones and digestive hormones. Sex hormones include testosterone, estrogen and progesterone. Sleep hormones include the pineal gland. Adrenals produce stress hormones, the pancreas, hypothalamus and parathyroid impact hunger and digestion while the thymus affects the immune system. This is not a complete or comprehensive list of hormones and their functions but can help provide some context for men who may be in need of hormone therapy.

Where Do Hormones Come From?

Hormones are made by glands in the body. The main ones are the hypothalamus, the thyroid, the thymus, the pancreas, the adrenals, the pituitary gland, the pineal gland, the ovaries and the testicles. There are other glands as well.

How Can Hormones Be Tested?

A good way to get a basic feel for your hormone health is through our online hormone health quiz! You can do this from the comfort of your home with no lab work. If you score high on our quiz, then it may be likely that your hormones are unbalanced. If this is the case, we encourage you to stop by the offices of one of our thousands of BioTE Medical practitioners for follow up testing. In office testing may include saliva samples, blood tests, blood serum tests or urine tests depending on the hormones being tested.

What is BHRT?

Bio-identical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) uses plant derived hormones. These are chemically identical to the hormones found within the human body.

How Does Hormonal Imbalance Testing Contribute to Effective BHRT?

Effective BHRT provides men with the exact amount of quality hormones they are missing. Testing proves the levels of hormones needed and is an important part of accurate hormonal supplementation.
